Moving towards Self Kindness

Moving towards Self Kindness - can be particularly challenging and takes courage. All to often we get caught up in looking after everyone else before ourself. And when we consider taking care of ourself, that nagging question pops up: 'Am I being Selfish'.

Let's be clear. looking after others is a good and decent thing - but we too are worthy of care. Kindness isn't something you just give away, it is something you deserve too. And what better way to start is to be 'Kind to your Self' Here are some tips to help you on the journey towards Self Kindness:

  • Pay attention to your inner voice - Notice the way you speak to yourself. Acknowledge any negative thoughts that come up and gently let them go - without judgement, anger or blame. You also deserve the kindness and unconditional positive regard you freely give to others
  • Practice reframing - the language we use we ourselves matters deeply. When you notice a negative thought - shift the negative language by reframing it, for example - 'I am not good enough' to "I'm doing the best I can right now' - it is about honesty with compassion and kindness for yourself
  • Self care and boundaries go hand in hand - you can't have one without the other. Saying 'No' is absolutely ok - if 'no' is too hard try saying 'not right now'. Being honest with your own limits is an act of true kindness towards yourself, and to others.
  • Notice and feel your feelings - your feelings are valid. Let them rise - no need to hold onto them, fix them or analyse them - just notice them, feel them, then let them go.

Self kindness is not a luxury it is essential for life's journey - you are worthy of your own kindess - always.
