Understanding ADHD and Autism: A Counsellor’s Perspective
As a counsellor & coach, I’ve been working more and more with our beautifully different neurodivergent community.
Each person I meet brings their own unique experiences, perspectives, and strengths - and it’s a privilege to walk alongside them as they learn more about themselves.
This blog is a gentle introduction to ADHD and autism, two neurodevelopment differences that are often misunderstood. My hope is that it helps increase awareness and compassion, whether you’re exploring these experiences yourself or supporting someone you care about.
Because finding out who you are isn’t a weakness - it’s a real strength.

Gratitude – Camping

This summer, I’ve spent time camping — away from the familiar comforts of home — and it’s left me with a deep sense of gratitude. Simple things I often take for granted suddenly became luxuries.

Making a cup of tea in a field, crouched over a small camping stove, is a slower, more deliberate process than simply flicking on the kettle at home. It takes more time, more effort, and a bit of patience. But that pause allowed me to truly appreciate the moment — the gentle wind, the sun on my face, the quiet hum of nature around me.

And when I finally sipped that tea, it tasted better than ever. Not just because of the tea itself, but because of everything around it.

Coming home, I see everything with fresh eyes — the ease, the convenience, the comfort. And I’m filled with gratitude for both the simplicity of nature and the luxuries of home.

Moving towards Self Kindness

Self-kindness is a courageous and essential practice, especially in a world where we’re so often focused on caring for others. Allow yourself to move gently toward self-kindness.

Start with small changes — simple acts of care, compassion, and patience with yourself.
